Kid-Tauqua Fully Funded
Samantha Funding The Arts has graciously funded the entire 2024 children's program at the Victorian Chautauqua. The funding nonprofit is led by June and Charlie McClosky in memory of their daughter Samantha, who was passionate about the arts.
Supporting Maryland Artists
The 2024 Victorian Chautauqua is pleased to receive a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council for two musical performances, solo classical guitarist Mark Edwards, and a six-piece jazz ensemble Halley Jazz, led by Halley Shoenberg.

Modern Dance Loses Legend
Robert Daniel "Dan" Wagoner was internationally celebrated as a modern dancer, choreographer, and professor. After a long and fruitful career in the art of movement, he died near the comfort of his family on January 19 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, Maryland, where he had been a resident for several years.
Heritage Area Grant Enhances Festival
Mountain Maryland Gateway To The West and Heritage Areas Authority has awarded The Victorian Chautauqua Festival grant funding to assist with additional way-finding and staging for the event.
Maryland Humanities Funds 2024 Programming
The Victorian Chautauqua is pleased to be a recipient of the 2024 SHINE Grant awards from Maryland Humanities. The funding will go toward diversifying programs at the weekend festival taking place on July 6th & 7th in the Historic District of Mountain Lake Park.
Chautauqua Celebrates 150 Years
U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt is credited as calling Chautauqua "the most American thing in America". The original Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York continues today and proudly celebrates its 150th Anniversary in 2024.
A Tree With History
The Mountain Lake Park Historical Association (MLPHA) will be entering a custom-decorated tree for auction at the 2023 Festival of Trees.
Showing His Cards
Lee Asher is a celebrated, second-generation magician, magic consultant, and playing card historian who will be sharing his obsessions on the Victorian Chautauqua stage. Journey on a deep dive into one of the world’s earliest forms of tabletop recreation and conjuring tools.
Black Magic Is Back
Black Magic Burlesque Circus Troupe will be returning to the Victorian Chautauqua in 2024.

Museum Reopens For The Victorian Chautauqua
The Victorian Chautauqua showcases the town's history each year during the weekend following the 4th of July. The influx of visitors prompted an interest in revamping the museum's collection, first publicly displayed in 2006
Strong Man Cody
Strong Man Cody is a modern-day version of an era of burly men. His passion for fitness and self-improvement led him to currently hold the record as Maryland’s deadlift champion within his weight class. In a demonstration of strength, Strong Man Cody will attempt to break a new personal record before a live audience.
New Acts, Old Look
The Victorian Chautauqua will be introducing Vaudeville In The Street in 2023. A smaller tent venue offers up short performances of live music and unusual acts indicative of a more bawdy side of entertainment from the turn of the last century.
Victorian Chautauqua Awarded Grant From CTF
The Victorian Chautauqua is a proud recipient of a $10,000 grant-award from the Naylor Family Trust Fund as part of The Community Trust Foundation (CTF). Committee Chair Bob Spear and the Program Committee's Mary Helen Spear were in attendance to accept the award.
Hat Making Workshop
New for the 2023 Victorian Chautauqua is the Victorian Hat Competition. If you need some inspiration, a special workshop will be held at the Garrett County Arts Council $MART ART Shared Workspace.
