Trout is popular for its clean, mild, and delicate flavor, making it a highly desirable culinary choice. Lightly dredged in cornmeal, wrapped in bacon, and pan-fried until crisp and golden will shimmer under a gentle spritz of lemon. This is no ordinary fish tale.

This classic is a mouthwatering combination of salty baked, crusted ham with a complementary silky, rich, sweet glaze. Ham’s intense flavor comes from the curing process, making it a dependable protein before refrigeration was commonplace. From a holiday favorite to a homespun feast. It’s okay if you squeal!

Steeped in tradition, this pan-fried classic became a staple recipe that reached far beyond Maryland’s borders. In fact, it was famously featured as a menu selection on board the Titanic. One taste and you’ll realize why Chicken à la Maryland remains a buoyant choice.

Starting a Movement
The Thompson Rest Home for Deaconesses became the first of its kind, providing a retreat for female clergy at a summer boarding home that, at its peak, offered 40 rooms. Today, “The Deaconess,” as it is fondly called, is the headquarters for the Mountain Lake Park Historical Association. Restoration plans and fundraising efforts are ongoing to reinvigorate Mountain Lake Park’s oldest standing cottage that was built in 1982 to house the first minister and his family.
